XVII: #blacklivesmatter

By the way, it’s okay to not know how to feel.

Labelling your emotions might not be something that’s possible for you right now.

At the moment, words like

Concerned, upset, angry may not quite explain how you feel about the

Killing of innocent black people. Maybe sometimes you feel like you’re

Losing yourself in a sea of despair, engulfing you with every #blacklifegone you scroll pass and that it’s

Impossible to breach the surface. Maybe sometimes you feel anesthetized, powerless and numb to the

Very cause you want, with every fiber of yourself, to support, to

Educate others on, hoping to bring justice to a world rampant with injustice. Maybe

Sometimes you feel a raging, incensed blaze of fury and frustration because we have to fight for our lives to even

Mean something. Maybe sometimes you don’t know how to define what you feel.

And that’s okay. But, what is just as important as advocating for equality is allowing yourself the means to do so.

Take breaks from social media, from work, from school to renew your energy.

To give yourself time to think, to reflect, and accept the defined and undefined

Emotions you have. And, most of all,

Rest today, so that you can fight for our cause more valiantly than ever tomorrow.
